ClimateTech Startups You Need To Know About
Startups Solving Climate Challenges Across Diverse Fields.
ClimateTech may be a trending term, but its impact is undeniable. Just as we have software to aid us with technology and get quicker results, ClimateTech is simply referred to as technology innovations that can positively change or affect the climate.
Thanks to technological advancements and the growing demand for innovation, ClimateTech startups have emerged across key sectors: transportation, buildings, agriculture, energy, and the newly added carbon tech.
To improve the content shared on this Substack, I have taken it as a fun project to introduce a new vertical—ClimateTech—to create more awareness about the industry and also share what's happening in that climate. With that being said, in this piece, we're looking at some climate tech startups (about 8 of them) within different categories, highlighting the solutions they are providing and other necessary updates.
BioZeroc
Founded in 2021 by Liv Andersson, BioZeroc is a climate tech startup using bio-tech to make carbon-negative hard materials (construction materials). Earlier in 2023, BioZeroc launched the World’s First on-site integration of BioConcrete manufacturing.
BioZeroc is focused on lowering the negative impact of the built environment through the application and development of environmentally friendly materials and practices. This is possible through the combination of cutting-edge biotech and an unwavering commitment to sustainability.
BioZeroc is focusing on using biotechnology to replace cement in concrete.
Glacier Grid
GlacierGrid’s mission is to combat climate change by eliminating energy and food waste from the global cooling system.
The company is founded on 3 guiding principles- Data, Arete, and Commitment. GlacierGrid prides itself in being an energy management specialist, adept at overseeing the HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Four Growers
Built on the foundation of a genuine curiosity and passion for food, Four Growers makes use of technology (robotic harvesting and plant analytics) to provide healthy, affordable local produce by reducing the production costs of greenhouse growers.
Four Growers currently has 2 filed patents that protect their technology. Recently, they announced a $9M Series A funding that will enable them to oversee and scale the production of their flagship product - the GR-100 harvesting platform.
Sublime Systems
Sublime Systems uses technology to replace the construction industry Portland cement (made out of clay, sand, and cooking limestone) and makes use of electrochemistry to extract reactive calcium and silicates into a final sublime cement.
What began Sublime System’s journey was the question of making zero-carbon cement.
Tokamak Energy
Founded as a spin-off in 2009 from the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), Tokamak Energy is on a mission to deliver fusion energy in the 2030s. As a leader in two core technologies - the HTS magnet and the compact spherical tokamak.
The HTS magnet can be applied in a wide range of industries including renewable energy, propulsion in space, air and water, science, and medical sectors.
Paebbl
This decarbonization technology company is making use of a proven technology to turn CO2 into valuable industrial raw materials and solid carbonate materials.
The deep tech impact company not only captures CO₂ but also mineralizes and turns it into building materials (concrete and climate) which solves a massive climate problem with innovative technology.
The company recently raised $25M to supercharge CO₂ storage to accelerate their technology scale-up and connect the valve chain for CO₂ storage in building materials, positioning them as a key player in combating climate change.
Reonic
